Experiential Learning

The Rise Honors Program provides students with opportunity to take their knowledge outside of the classroom through unique experiential learning opportunities. This allows students to grow both academically and personally.

Trout In The Classroom

In partnership with Trout Unlimited, Trout in the Classroom allows for students to raise Rainbow Trout from eggs to fingerlings. The trout, once all tests are pasted, are released into the wild. This project allows for students to learn the following:

  • Monitor tank water quality

  • Engage in stream habitat study

  • Learn to appreciate water resources

  • Begin to foster a conservation ethic

  • Grow to understand ecosystems

To help student learn more about the trout raising process, students are able to experience what it is like to raise fish professionally. Students are able to connect their experience in science with the real world. The trout used for our trout in the classroom come from this hatchery, so students are able to experience every step of the process.

Night At IACS

After experiencing the different exhibits at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, students will create their own museum and invite members of the school community to experience a "Night at the IACS Museum." These exhibits are created by students based students major interests.

Restaurant Night At IACS

Using skills learned in Math, Science, Social Studies, and English, students will create a restaurant in collaboration with a local food truck. Not only does this event allow for students to show all they have learned, it will be a fundraiser for the 8th grade trip.

Rise & Grind

Using skills learned in Math, Science, Social Studies, and English, students will run a coffee shop in collaboration with a local coffee shop. Students prepare, budget, and serve coffee to teachers one day a week. Students use the funds raised to put towards their 8th grade trip.
